Retractable Bollards Provide Average Security
The Retractable Bollards are in many ways similar to the Lockable Bollards. The whole unit can be comfortably operated by a clutch key tool. For security purposes the bollard comes above the ground level, for example at night, to safeguard your premises. On the other hand it locks down right down to the level of the pavement so that your premises are accessible from the street during the day.
When the Retractable Bollard is in the upright position it can withstand a 3-4 tonne force at its full height, which can vary between 470 to 900 mm. It is ideal for the protection of roller doors and entrance gates and even shop fronts. It can be used to prevent vehicle theft and access control of commercial and private property.
Cars, vans and boats can be secured by the bollards or they can be for curbing access to bigger areas like car parks and sporting grounds. Many local and State government properties have installed such retractable bollards. It is also popular among new and used motor dealerships.
Like the lockable bollard the retractable bollard also has an inbuilt multiple combination key lock system. It is possible to incorporate some well-known security system. The cylinders of the bollard are made of heavy steel or stainless steel. Normally there is a handle to facilitate the locking in the ‘up' and ‘down' positions. The operation of the handle is easy and comfortable; the person doesn't even have to bend to change the position of the bollard.
Many retractable bollards used in shops and commercial properties are made of heavy duty steel and they are able to withstand impacts without affecting performance. The bollards look attractive on the street and when not required they are concealed and flush with the road. Actually there is a gravity operated lid and this ensures that the system totally ‘disappears'.
The retractable bollard is also called the ‘fold down post'. It is often used for reserving individual car parking spaces. Bollards come in both standard and decorative configurations. One can also buy custom designed bollard systems from the manufacturers.
If high security locking is required, the retractable bollards should not be used. So if you want to put it in a car yard, the insurance companies insist on the "cam-lok" removable bollards. Often retractable bollards are mounted near enough to each other so that an ordinary car cannot have access, for instance. But the space could be wide enough to permit special-purpose vehicles.
